Description

José L. Piedra is a particularly noteworthy Habano not only because its blend is composed of filler tobaccos grown exclusively in the Remedios tobacco region, but also because it is made using the ‘Totalmente a Mano, Tripa Corta’, or ‘totally handmade, short filler’ technique. The Piedra family came to Cuba in the 1880’s from the Spanish province of Asturias. They settled near the town of Santa Clara, which lies at the heart of the Remedios region where tobacco has been grown since the 16th Century, and started to make cigars. The family’s second generation was led by José Lamadrid Piedra who founded and developed the brand.

The José L. Piedra Conservas cigar represents one of Cuba’s most approachable and traditional smoking experiences. Part of the historic José L. Piedra brand, the Conservas has earned a reputation among cigar enthusiasts as a reliable Cuban cigar that delivers genuine island character without the premium price associated with many luxury Cuban marques. The cigar has remained in regular production since its introduction in 1996 and continues to appeal to smokers looking for an authentic everyday Cuban smoke. Measuring 140mm (5½ inches) with a 44 ring gauge, the Conservas offers a comfortable size that provides a satisfying smoking session while remaining easy to enjoy on a regular basis. It is handcrafted using short-filler tobacco, a construction style that defines the José L. Piedra line and allows the brand to maintain affordability while preserving the flavours and aromas associated with Cuban tobacco.

The flavour profile of the José L. Piedra Conservas reflects its Cuban heritage, offering earthy tobacco notes complemented by cedar, subtle sweetness, spice, and hints of roasted flavours as the cigar develops. While it may not have the complexity or refinement of Cuba’s most prestigious cigars, it delivers a straightforward and enjoyable experience that highlights traditional Cuban tobacco character. Often appreciated as a dependable daily cigar, the Conservas is well suited for casual occasions, outdoor activities, or moments when a smoker wants a true Cuban cigar without reaching for a more expensive premium offering. Its combination of heritage, affordability, and recognizable Cuban flavour has helped it maintain a loyal following among both newcomers and experienced cigar enthusiasts. For those seeking an honest representation of Cuban cigar-making tradition, the José L. Piedra Conservas remains a classic choice—simple, authentic, and full of character. Size: 5 1/2 x 44. Note: these are now shipping in plain packaging with authentic bands underneath.
