Description
Diamond Crown Classic is J.C. Newman’s anniversary cigar. Handmade at Tabacalera A. Fuente, Diamond Crown Classic cigars are exquisitely rolled with either five-year-old Connecticut Shade or Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper around an exceptionally aged blend of Dominican binder and filler tobaccos. Diamond Crown Classic is the perfect cigar to celebrate special occasions or to smoke while enjoying the finest things in life.
Diamond Crown Classic cigars are creamy and smooth while still complex and flavourful. Diamond Crown’s exceptional taste comes from its double fermented wrappers. Nearly all tobacco is fermented a single time; Diamond Crown wrappers are conditioned, graded, selected, and fermented twice. It is this second fermentation that evens and deepens the Rosado colour of the tobacco wrapper and eliminates any potential rawness. After being rolled, Diamond Crown Classic cigars are inspected three times to ensure perfection and are aged in lots of 50 cigars for a minimum of 12 months. Diamond Crown Classic Maduro Double Robusto No. 4 features the same smooth and creamy binder and filler as the Diamond Crown Classic and a genuine Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, but the Diamond Crown Maduro is dark and oily with sweet and toasty flavours.
J.C. Newman first created Diamond Crown more than a century ago. From the beginning, Diamond Crown was a luxury cigar. When most cigars sold for 2 cents, Diamond Crown was a nickel. When the price of a typical cigar was 5 cents, Diamond Crown sold for a dime. Diamond Crown was a very popular brand before fading away shortly before World War II.
In 1995, Stanford J. Newman and Carlos Fuente, Jr. created Diamond Crown Classic to celebrate J.C. Newman’s 100th anniversary. Diamond Crown revolutionized the cigar industry because it was the first cigar to have a 54 ring gauge, launching the trend of thicker cigars. In 2024, J.C. Newman elevated the packaging of Diamond Crown Classic in preparation for the company’s 130th anniversary.
Today, the Diamond Crown family includes Diamond Crown Classic, Diamond Crown MAXIMUS, Diamond Crown Julius Caeser, Diamond Crown Black Diamond, and a line of luxury cigar humidors and accessories. About JC Newman Cigars
In 1895, a young Hungarian immigrant named Julius Caeser Newman rolled his first cigar in the family barn in Cleveland, Ohio. Armed with a cigar mold, $50, and a dream, J.C. Newman founded what would become the oldest family-owned premium cigar maker in America. His first cigars were sold to local grocers, and through sheer determination, Newman’s small operation steadily grew.
By 1954, seeking to be closer to America’s cigar heartland, the company relocated to Tampa, Florida’s historic Ybor City, into a beautiful brick cigar factory known as El Reloj (“The Clock”). There, the rhythmic clatter of hand-operated cigar machines echoed through the halls as the company blended traditional craftsmanship with innovative production.
J.C. Newman’s partnerships with legendary cigar families, most notably the Arturo Fuente family, helped the company weather the challenges of the Cuban embargo and shifting tobacco markets. Together, they pioneered premium cigar production in the Dominican Republic, ensuring that rich, hand-rolled cigars continued to reach connoisseurs worldwide.
Four generations later, the Newman family still oversees the company with the same dedication to quality and heritage. They have embraced both tradition and innovation—maintaining their vintage cigar machines at El Reloj while launching artisanal, hand-rolled lines like Diamond Crown and Brick House, a nod to Julius’ humble beginnings.
Through wars, embargoes, and industry upheavals, J.C. Newman Cigar Company has stood as a symbol of American perseverance and family pride. Today, it is not just a cigar factory, but a living museum of cigar history, honoring a legacy that began with a single cigar mold and an immigrant’s dream.
