Description
The Fonseca Du Nord Regional Edition XXV is a distinguished Cuban cigar created exclusively for the Canadian market under Habanos S.A.’s esteemed Edición Regional programme. It marks the first Canadian regional release in over seven years and only the third such regional cigar ever produced by the historic Fonseca marque, making it a truly rare and noteworthy addition to any humidor.
Measuring 5½ inches (140 mm) with a 52 ring gauge in the Genios (Robusto Extra) vitola, the Du Nord is a long‑filler Cuban cigar crafted entirely by hand with premium Cuban wrapper, binder, and filler leaves. This classic format offers a satisfying smoke of approximately 60–90 minutes, ideal for relaxed occasions.
In keeping with Fonseca’s house style, the Du Nord delivers a medium‑strength profile that balances smoothness with nuanced flavour — approachable for seasoned aficionados and newcomers alike. While official tasting notes vary, enthusiasts often note gentle creamy tobacco, subtle spice and earthiness that evolve through the smoke.

About Fonseca Cigars
Fonseca Cigars are among the most distinctive and refined cigars produced in Cuba. Known for their elegant presentation and mild, approachable flavour profile, Fonseca cigars occupy a unique place in the world of premium hand-rolled cigars. Produced under the supervision of Habanos S.A., the brand continues to attract smokers who appreciate subtlety, craftsmanship, and tradition.
The brand was founded in the 1890s by Spanish immigrant Francisco E. Fonseca, who established his factory in Havana. Fonseca quickly distinguished itself from other cigar brands of the time through both quality and presentation. One of the most recognizable features of Fonseca cigars is that each cigar is individually wrapped in delicate tissue paper before being placed in the box. This tradition began as a practical solution: the paper protected the cigars during transport and prevented the wrappers from becoming damaged or oily. Over time, the tissue wrapping became an iconic signature of the brand and remains a hallmark of Fonseca packaging today.
Like all authentic Cuban cigars, Fonseca cigars are made entirely by hand using premium tobacco grown in the famed Vuelta Abajo region of western Cuba. This region is widely considered the finest tobacco-growing area in the world, producing leaves prized for their balance, aroma, and complexity. Fonseca cigars use a blend of filler and binder leaves from this region, finished with a silky Cuban wrapper that contributes to the cigar’s smooth character.
In terms of flavour, Fonseca cigars are generally known for their mild to medium body. They often deliver creamy notes of cedar, light earth, toasted nuts, and subtle sweetness. This restrained flavour profile makes them especially appealing to smokers who prefer a more delicate Cuban cigar experience. Because of their smoothness and consistency, they are also a popular entry point for those new to Cuban cigars.
Several vitolas are produced under the Fonseca name, including classic sizes such as the Cosacos, Delicias, and No. 1. These cigars vary in length and ring gauge but share the brand’s signature smoothness and refined balance. Their construction is typically excellent, reflecting the meticulous hand-rolling techniques used in Cuba’s historic cigar factories.
Although Fonseca may not be as widely discussed as some Cuban brands, it has maintained a loyal following for more than a century. Its combination of tradition, elegant presentation, and gentle flavour makes it a distinctive option within the vast portfolio of Cuban cigars. For smokers seeking a classic Havana cigar that emphasizes finesse over strength, Fonseca remains a quietly exceptional choice.
