Description
The Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de Rio Seco is a modern Cuban cigar that combines the historic elegance of the Hoyo de Monterrey marque with a bold, contemporary format. Introduced in 2018 as part of the brand’s Le Hoyo series, this cigar showcases the smooth, aromatic character for which the brand is renowned while embracing a larger ring gauge that has become increasingly popular among aficionados.
Measuring 5½ inches in length with a substantial 56 ring gauge, the Rio Seco is presented in the Aromosos vitola and is handcrafted entirely from Cuban tobacco grown in the famous Vuelta Abajo region. The blend uses carefully selected Seco and Ligero leaves, resulting in a smoke that is generally medium in body but rich in flavor and aroma.
From the first draw, the cigar delivers a creamy and refined profile marked by notes of cedar, toasted tobacco, and subtle sweetness. As the smoke develops, layers of baking spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg emerge, often accompanied by hints of caramel, cocoa, and light floral undertones. These flavours are balanced by touches of wood, roasted nuts, and gentle earthiness that deepen through the middle and final thirds.
Despite its large size, the Rio Seco maintains the signature smoothness associated with Hoyo de Monterrey, offering a relaxed and elegant smoking experience that typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. The result is a complex yet approachable Cuban cigar, ideal for smokers who appreciate creamy textures, nuanced spice, and the refined character of traditional Havana tobacco. Size: 5 1/2 x 56. Note: these are now shipping in plain packaging with the authentic band underneath the plain band.

About Hoyo de Monterrey
The Hoyo de Monterrey brand takes its name from a famous Cuban farm of the same name, located in San Juan y Martínez in Vuelta Abajo, Cuba’s finest tobacco-producing region. Cuba’s José Gener registered the Hoyo de Monterrey brand in 1865 and the cigar has long been a major name in Cuban cigars. The brand is named after the Basin of Monterrey, which refers to a fertile plantation bought by tobacco grower José Gener in 1860 that’s located on a river’s edge in the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba.
