Description

The Trinidad Coloniales is a refined Cuban cigar that exemplifies the elegance and balance for which the brand has become known. Produced in Cuba at the prestigious Habanos S.A. factories, the Coloniales measures 5.2 inches (132 mm) in length with a 44 ring gauge, a classic Hermosos No. 4 vitola that offers a comfortable smoking time of roughly 40–50 minutes.

Handcrafted using the traditional “tripa larga, totalmente a mano” method, the Coloniales features long-filler tobacco grown in the famed Vuelta Abajo region, widely regarded as the finest tobacco-growing area in the world. The wrapper is typically smooth and slightly oily, presenting a warm, medium-brown hue and excellent construction.

Flavour-wise, the Coloniales delivers a medium-bodied profile with remarkable smoothness. Initial draws often reveal notes of cedar, toasted tobacco, and subtle creaminess. As the cigar develops, more nuanced flavours emerge, including hints of nuts, light spice, and gentle sweetness. The smoke remains balanced throughout, never overpowering the palate.

Originally, Trinidad cigars were produced in limited quantities as diplomatic gifts for foreign dignitaries before becoming available to the public in the late 1990s. Today, the Coloniales remains one of the brand’s most accessible and well-balanced offerings, prized by aficionados seeking a classic, sophisticated Cuban smoking experience.  Size: 5.2″ by 44 ring gauge. Note: these are now shipping in plain packaging with authentic bands underneath.

About Trinidad Cuban Cigars

Trinidad is one of the most prestigious and intriguing brands in the world of Cuban cigars. Known for its refined character and limited production, the brand carries a mystique that stems from its unusual origins as a cigar reserved exclusively for diplomats and foreign dignitaries. Today, Trinidad remains a symbol of Cuban craftsmanship and understated luxury.

The brand was created in 1969 in Cuba and named after the historic colonial city of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage site on the island’s southern coast. The cigars were first produced at the famous El Laguito factory in Havana, the same factory responsible for another legendary Cuban brand, Cohiba.

For nearly three decades, Trinidad cigars were not available for purchase by the public. Instead, they were produced in small quantities and used by the Cuban government as diplomatic gifts for visiting heads of state and important international guests. Because of this exclusivity, the brand became something of a legend among cigar enthusiasts, whispered about but rarely seen outside official circles.

It was not until 1998 that Trinidad cigars were officially released for public sale. The debut took place in Havana at the Habana Libre Hotel, where the Fundadores was introduced as the first commercially available size. The launch was met with considerable excitement among cigar aficionados, many of whom had long heard of the elusive diplomatic cigar.

Following the successful launch, the brand gradually expanded its lineup. In 2003, several new sizes were introduced, including the Coloniales, Reyes, and Robusto Extra, giving smokers a broader range of formats while maintaining the brand’s refined character. Over the years, additional vitolas such as the Vigía and Media Luna have further expanded the portfolio.

Trinidad cigars are known for several distinctive features. One of the most recognizable is the small “pigtail” cap at the head of the cigar, a stylistic touch that sets them apart visually from many other Cuban brands. The cigars are handcrafted using long-filler tobacco grown in the famed Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba, widely regarded as the finest tobacco-growing area in the world.

In terms of flavour, Trinidad cigars are generally considered medium-bodied, offering refined notes of cedar, earth, cream, and subtle spice. Their balanced profile and meticulous construction have helped establish them as favorites among experienced smokers seeking complexity without overwhelming strength.

Although production remains relatively limited compared to some Cuban brands, Trinidad continues to hold a special place in the world of premium cigars. With its diplomatic heritage, elegant presentation, and refined smoking experience, the brand represents one of Cuba’s most distinctive contributions to cigar culture.
