Toraño Cigar Event: This Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 7-10 pm.

We are inviting you to an event on Wednesday February 27th that will feature some fine cigars and, we hope, some fine hockey.  But first:  the cigars.

Charlie Toraño was raised in the cigar business. For three generations before him, the Toraño men were leaf growers. His great-grandfather started growing tobacco in Cuba in 1916. His grandfather expanded the tobacco growing business and by 1959 the Toraño family owned and operated 17 tobacco farms. After the Cuban revolution, Charlie’s grandfather started growing tobacco in the Dominican Republic. When his father became involved in tobacco growing, he and his partners grew tobacco in Nicaragua, Mexico and Ecuador. In the early to mid 1980’s, Charlie’s father Carlos started a transition from leaf growing to cigar manufacturing. For many years the Toraños made private labels for other cigar distributors. However, by the mid 1990’s, the Toraños started their own brand of cigars under the Toraño family name.

Today, the Toraño stable is home to such cigars as the Loyal, Master, and Exodus 1959.  These cigars have ranked well in the Cigar Aficionado rankings and are noted for their intriguing tobacco selections; the Exodus Torpedo itself is composed of tobaccos from five different countries.  Says Charlie, “Our cigar blending philosophy is highly influenced by our tobacco growing experience. We love to make complex cigar blends with tobacco from a variety of different countries”.

The Toraño company motto is “Make Time to Burn”.  We hope you will come to our Toraño Family Cigar night and learn more about these fine cigars.  The cost to attend this event is $20 and that gets you two premium cigars. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided … and we will also have the television tuned to the Leafs vs. Canadiens game.  Simon from House of Horvath will be on hand to answer questions about Toraño cigars, and there will be cigar swag and door prizes to be won.

You must let us know if you plan on attending by phoning (905-443-0193) or emailing (info@victorycigars.ca) ahead of the event.    So put February 27th from 7-10 p.m. in your calendar!

Cigar of the Week:  Puros Indios Maxima Reserva Toro

Love for the cigar trade has long been the motivation and inspiration behind the Puros Indios brand. From 1936 until 2012, “Don” Rolando Reyes was an active leader in the business, owning and operating factories in Havana, the Dominican Republic, Miami, New Jersey and Honduras.  Don Rolando hand-inspected the work of his rollers on a daily basis, earning the trust of cigar connoisseurs the world over and a reputation for creating some of the finest cigars in the world.

Puros Indios uses a wide selection of tobaccos to create the perfect blend of filler binder and wrapper, and each cigar is made with a keen and active eye for detail and quality.  The Maxima Reserva Toro is a firm and rich cigar with an oily wrapper. In 2002, this cigar line was declared ‘best cigar from Honduras’ by a European panel. The dark wrapper gives this cigar most of its character.   It is constructed of filler from Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Brazil; a binder from Ecuador; and a Sumatran sun grown wrapper leaf.  Come and try one this week for the feature price of $9.99.
