Crazy Canuck Facts!

We boast a fifth of the world’s water supply!

We have crazy town names like Stoner, British Colombia, Ball’s Falls, Ontario and Pekwachnamaykoskwaskwaypinwanik Lake, Manitoba – which also happens to be the longest place name in Canada which means “where the wild trout are caught by fishing with hooks”.

Canada stretches across six time zones! Yes, SIX! We’re huuuuuugggggeee.

36 million people live here!

Two official languages are recognized but we speak over 200 languages here.  Including 60 or better indigenous languages.  The largest language family is Algonquin, which includes Cree languages, Ojibway, Innu/Montagnais and Oji-Cree!

IMAX is our invention too.  We also gave the world garbage bags, peanut butter and poutine.  Walkie-Talkies, the telephone and the snow blower are ours too.  Did we mention five pin bowling, instant mashed potatoes (for which Hollywood should really thank us!) and pablum.  The longest beard lives here (no surprise there) and the CBC has been connecting Canadians since 1936. Pretty incredible.  Thank you CBC for compiling this list of facts.  Which you can read in it’s entirety, all 150 of them, here.

Last but not least, we seem to be always apologizing.  At least we are known for it.  So sorry, but we will be closed this Saturday.  We can’t wait to hang with our families and chill on Canada’s 150th birthday, maybe take in some fireworks and a nice cigar.

So whether you go grab a double double or go for a rip this weekend, we hope you are safe, happy and have the time of your life.

Cheers to 150 big years Canada!
