IPSD Pipe Carving Contest
The pipe carving competition is just starting. We have 4 briar blanks left. The contest runs until April 5th. The top two pipes will be sent to Brigham where we will go head to head with a tobacconist in Edmonton called Burlington on Whyte. There will be two categories of Best Pipe and Most Creative. Prizes will be awarded at the National level as well as trophies. This is your chance to show your creative side and shine! The above example was carved by Ed Hoad.
Contest Duration; February 20-April 5th
Entry FEE; $49.95 per pipe
Rules;
1. Carving contest entrants will receive a standard carve-it block which they will be expected to carve into a customized pipe. Only carve-it blocks purchased in the hosting store during the contest run time will be eligible for the contest.
2. Contestants can use any method they choose to accomplish the carving. Designs can be original or inspired by established shapes. Contestants can finish the pipes in whatever way they please, however the finished pipes must be smoke-able.
3. Small defects within the briar will not be an excuse for an inferior entry. Dealing with such setbacks is part of the pipe carver’s challenge. If a defect is serious enough to make the pipe un-smoke-able judges may consider this.
4. Contestants may enter up to two pipes for consideration by the judges. They will however, be unable to win in more than one category.
5. Entries must be received no later than 6pm Saturday April 5th, 2014 in order to be eligible.
6. Contest winners will be announced, prizes will be awarded Sunday April 6th, 2014.
