International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailer (IPCPR) Tradeshow
We just returned from the biggest industry tradeshow in North America, the annual IPCPR event in Orlando. This year’s show included a Who’s Who of the cigar industry with appearances by Pete Johnson, Jonathan Drew, Alan Rubin, George Rico, Nick Perdomo, Charlie Torano, Rocky Patel … it just went on and on. Of course Rocky had brother Nish and cousin Nimish with him; we even had a chance to reconnect with Chris Mey, RP’s International Sales Manager (and a recent visitor to Victory Cigars).
So what did we see at the show? We saw a lot of cool accessories, including cutters by Credo and Shuriken; nice pipe tobacco jars; new Boveda packs; lighters by Colibri, men’s shaving accessories; and much more. Watch for all kinds of new items to debut at Victory Cigars within the next few weeks. And there might even be a new cigar or two on the way, along with some new pipe tobaccos. You just never know what you’ll find at Victory Cigars!
Cigar of the Week: A. Turrent Triple Play Robusto
The A. Turrent Puro Maduro is comprised of fine, hand-selected maduro tobaccos. Created by fifth-generation cigar maker Alejandro Turrent, along with the master blenders of La Flor de Copan cigar factory in Honduras, the medium- to full-bodied Triple Play boasts an ultra-premium San Andrés Morrón wrapper, a blackened Connecticut Broadleaf binder and long fillers from Nicaragua, San Andrés and Honduras. Why the name “triple play”? Because it contains triple maduro, making it a cigar that can easily accompany a glass of Scotch or port.
If the name Turrent sounds familiar it’s because this is the family that owns Mexico’s Te-Amo plantations. They grow and roll some of the finest cigars in the world. Son Alejandro is currently the company’s working chairman but father Alberto is still very much involved in growing the tobacco and producing cigars. (In fact, both Alberto and Alejandro were at IPCPR as guests of US Tobacco Super-Company Altadis.)
The featured robusto is 54 x 4 ½ and costs $10.17. The belicoso version of this same blend was the #14 cigar on the 2010 Top 25 list; you should really put this cigar on your list of must-haves for 2012.
Cigar of the Month – August 2012
August already! And that means it’s time to select a new cigar of the month. To recognize the launch of new cigars by VegaFina we are designating August 2012 as “VegaFina Month” at Victory Cigars. VegaFina will be included in our cigar of the month and week selections. We are also having a special VegaFina contest. You can win a VegaFina humidor this month by completing a ballot in-store; no purchase is necessary to enter.
VegaFina’s extraordinary yet affordable cigars have become one of the most sought-after cigars in Europe; now you can enjoy them without the need for a passport! Handcrafted at the famous Tabacalera de Garcia factory and rolled under the guidance of renowned blender Jose Seijas, VegaFina cigars boast a luxurious, hand-selected Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper and a flavourful combination of Dominican, Colombian and Honduran long filler tobaccos swaddled in an Indonesian binder. This may be the worldliest cigar you ever smoke! They are a distinctly smooth, aromatic blend with a medium body that is considered a true connoisseur’s smoke.
The cigar is available in two formats: Corona Tubos (43 x 5 ¾) and Robusto (5 x 50). The prices for these cigars are $7.91 and $7.20 respectively.
