Description
The first family of Mexican tobacco originally added four new blends to its namesake Casa Turrent 1880 Series: The Claro, Colorado, Oscuro and Maduro. Now, there is a fifth offering, the Rosado.
While the Casa Turrent 1880 Series is made in only one size—6 1/2 inches by 55 ring gauge—it’s offered singly or in 10-count boxes. Although not limited-edition cigars, they are limited production with only one pair of rollers assigned to each blend. According to brand owner Alejandro Turrent, the factory will only produce 5,000 of each variety per month.
Casa Turrent 1880 Rosado is crafted from meticulously selected batches of three Cuban-seed tobaccos: Habano Mexico, Habano Criollo, and Habano 2000, all grown in the San Andres Valley by the Turrent family. The blend of these tobaccos has resulted in the creation of the fifth variant in the 1880 range. It delivers a medium-strength smoking experience with smooth flavours of coffee beans, cream, earthiness, and roasted nuts.
Naturally, all the Mexican tobaccos in this blend were grown by the Turrent family. The wrappers were aged five years and the binder and filler tobaccos were aged between 10 and 12 years. The packaging commemorates the family’s heritage in tobacco with Art Nouveau-inspired motifs and a collection of historical family photographs adorning the inner lid of the cigar box. Ranked 91 by Cigar Aficionado Magazine.
About Turrent Family Cigars
The Turrent family, one of the most revered names in the world of cigars, has been at the forefront of Mexican cigar craftsmanship for over a century. Renowned for their dedication to quality, tradition, and innovation, the Turrents have built a legacy that is synonymous with some of the finest cigars available today. From their fields in the lush San Andres Valley to their meticulously crafted blends, the Turrent family cigars are a testament to their deep-rooted passion for tobacco.
A Rich History Rooted in Tradition
The Turrent family’s journey in tobacco began in the late 19th century, when Alberto Turrent, the patriarch of the family, immigrated to Mexico from Cuba. Recognizing the fertile potential of Mexico’s San Andres Valley, he began cultivating tobacco in a region whose volcanic soil and unique microclimate mirrored that of Cuba. This valley, located in the state of Veracruz, soon became known for producing some of the best tobacco in the world, particularly for its distinctively rich and flavorful San Andres Negro leaf.
For generations, the Turrents focused on perfecting their craft, refining their growing techniques, and becoming experts in curing and fermenting tobacco leaves. This mastery led to the creation of high-quality cigars that attracted the attention of aficionados worldwide. Today, the Turrent family is Mexico’s largest grower of cigar tobacco, and their cigars are revered across the globe for their unique character and exceptional craftsmanship.
The Signature San Andres Tobacco
One of the key elements that sets Turrent cigars apart is their use of San Andres tobacco, particularly the San Andres Negro variety. Known for its bold flavor and superior aging potential, this tobacco is often used in the wrappers, binders, and fillers of many premium cigars. The volcanic soil of the San Andres Valley contributes to the tobacco’s distinct earthy, sweet, and slightly spicy profile, making it a favorite for those who enjoy a rich, complex smoke.
San Andres tobacco, particularly when used in maduro wrappers, has become a hallmark of Turrent cigars. These wrappers are dark, oily, and offer a deep, robust flavor, balancing sweetness with a touch of spice. The Turrent family’s mastery of aging and fermenting this tobacco ensures that their cigars maintain a consistent, well-rounded profile with every smoke.
