Pura Sangre Event
Mark Friday September 28th, 2012 in your calendar. At 3 p.m. we will be welcoming Hugo Erazo from Kretek International. Hugo will be in store to profile Pura Sangre, this month’s cigar of the month. Rest assured there will be deals in store for those who attend! You can learn more about Pura Sangre, the personal blend of Nestor Plasencia, by scrolling further down in this newsletter.
Davidoff of Geneva
Arguably the most prestigious non-Cuban cigar on the planet, Davidoff of Geneva was founded by the legendary Zino Davidoff. Among other things, Zino Davidoff is credited with inventing the desktop humidor. He is also credited with producing a cigar or two during his long life; we have decided to carry this line at Victory Cigars. We have regularly stocked the Primeros, Panatelas and Davidoff cigarettes; now we’re adding some big cigars to the line-up. Come in and discover what makes Davidoff such a fine brand. Now in stock at Victory Cigars, Oshawa.
September Classic Nine and Dine
We had a wonderful time at last week’s Nine & Dine. The weather cooperated and Royal Ashburn was in great shape. Thanks to all of the clients and suppliers who attended! And thanks to Scott and Dave at Royal Ashburn for being such wonderful hosts.
Cigar of the Week: Estilo Cubano Robusto Gordo
Estilo Cubano translates as “Cuban Style” and it is Ventura Cigar Company’s way of melding the tradition and heritage of the cigar business with modern day flare. This cigar screams style, from the dark exotic wrapper to the pigtail head. This cigar is a straight up game-changer. This is a no-nonsense cigar from the outset; you’ll have to smoke it to see. The knockout combo consists of Maduro wrapper, Habano binder and long-fill tobaccos from Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. This one is going to be a staple in any rotation. There’s a lot of flavour and strength in this cigar, making it a good accompaniment for a strong coffee; if you like a light smoke then this cigar will not be for you as the strength profile is medium-full bodied. The Robusto Gordo was rated 90 by Cigar Aficionado, July-August, 2012. Try it this week for the featured price of $8.47.
Orangutan Care Center – Please Buy An Empty Cigar Box!
In October of 2012 Michael Reid, one of our good friends (and a brother of the leaf) will be visiting Borneo. Mike, a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, is one of Canada’s bright young minds working in the field of primatology. He will be travelling to Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) Indonesia. He will be working at the Orangutan Care Center and Quarantine (OCC&Q) which was established in 1998 as a hospital, orphanage and rehabilitation center for sick and orphaned orangutans.
We are asking our friends at Victory Cigars to help support Mike’s work by buying empty cigar boxes to help raise money for the orangutans. 100% of monies raised will be forwarded to the OCC&Q. As well, we will be accepting donations of children’s vitamins, heavy duty “Kong” toys, or new (because of the risk of germs) stuffed toys for the youngest orangutans. These will be forwarded on to Mike before he leaves. Mike will photograph the handover of money and/or supplies and we will send them out to you in a future newsletter. You can contact Mike at mj.reid@utoronto.ca or follow his trip on twitter @mjcreid. Let’s help Mike show the people of Indonesia that we care about the plight of these incredible creatures. Thank you for your support!
Cigar of the Month September 2012: Pura Sangre Robusto or Churchill
Once again we are turning to Central America for our Cigar of the Month with Pura Sangre. The reasons are simple. First off, it’s Plasencia made. Second and more importantly, it’s Nestor Sr.’s private blend. It’s what he starts his day with – everyday – with a few more sticks waiting in his shirt pocket. Senior is basically the Babe Ruth of tobacco and Pura Sangre is his personal blend. WHAT? This is like having the recipe to Coca-Cola.
These cigars are constructed with a Viso Habano Colorado wrapper, aged 5 years. Inside is an all-viso Habano binder encasing long-fill tobaccos from Jalapa, Esteli and Condega. In other words, this cigar is the legit Nicaraguan Puro and represents its name to the fullest. We are featuring the robusto ($9.56) and Churchill ($10.93) this month. Come and find out why the Pura Sangre motto is “Taste history. Taste legend. Taste greatness.”
New Products: Boveda Packs
By the time you receive this email, our new supply of Boveda Packs should be in the store. These self-contained units take the guesswork out of humidification; simply drop them in the humidor and forget them for months. We also have access to humidification units for musical instruments, too!
